‘Sleeping Out’ to Raise Money for Homeless Charities

MHCC’s Chief Accountable Officer and two other colleagues are to raise money for Manchester’s homeless by sleeping outside in charity events.

On Monday 16 October 2017, Ian Williamson, chief accountable officer, will be taking part in the CEO Sleepout, by joining many other CEOs and Senior Managers across Greater Manchester, to give up his bed for one night to help those who don’t have one.

Ian and the other participants will be asked to lead by example by braving the cold and sleeping outdoors side-by-side with their peers, at Emirates Old Trafford stadium, to raise awareness and funds for homeless people in Manchester.  Ian has set up his own Just Giving page, to raise money for MASH, a charity that has provided support to female sex workers in Manchester for over 20 years. MASH is just one of the charities that the CEO Sleepout supports.

Ian Williamson said “I think it is incredibly important that we put something back into our communities wherever possible, and I feel strongly about supporting this event to raise awareness of the, sadly, large homeless population we have here in Manchester.”

Following on from Ian’s night, on Thursday 19 October 2017 Val Bayliss-Brideaux and Deborah Grimshaw from the communications & engagement team will be swapping their beds for sleeping bags to help give homeless young people a future.  The Sleepout organised by Centrepoint will take place at London Road Fire Station in Manchester.  Both Deb and Val have chosen Centrepoint for their charities.
