Barry Williams made history today as he became the first person in Manchester to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
Barry was booked in for the coveted 8:00am slot at the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre after a phone call from his GP to say he was eligible.
When asked how he felt after receiving the vaccination he said:
I feel great, it’s the only way to beat the virus so everyone should have it.
Barry explained that vaccines were the norm for his generation and remembers being vaccinated against polio when he was younger. He had no hesitation about being first in the queue.
I have absolute confidence in the medical profession and the scientists that have made it, I’m looking forward to things getting back to normal so I can start enjoying my life again.
After he has his second jab, Barry is looking forward to spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren who he has missed not being able to see as much since the start of the pandemic. He has however managed to keep himself busy by making his own hand sanitiser for friends and family.
