Group consultations deliver the same or better outcomes and satisfaction, but with higher efficiency than usual care. There is robust evidence supporting group care in the UK and internationally, but different labels have so far been a barrier to understanding the generalisability of these studies (Jones et al, 2018).

Group consultations can deliver a step change in practice after one-day training/orientation. They are therefore a powerful model to increase the amount and accessibility of care without the time lag and cost inherent in training new staff from scratch. I

Session outcomes

By the end of this highly participative workshop, you will have:

  • Understood what group consultations are AND what they are not; how the process works
  • Listened to patient and staff experiences
  • Experienced a group consultation about group consultations
  • Be familiar with the evidence base, including UK case studies, that support the adoption of group consultation as routine practice
  • Contributed to a Shared Ambition for group consultations in Greater Manchester Health and Care Partnership
  • Have personal actions to take this work forward
