COVID-19 vaccinations for 5-11 year olds

On Monday 4 April, the government began the next phase of their COVID-19 vaccination programme, offering the jab to all 5-11 year olds.

All 5-11 year olds will be offered two doses of the Pfizer vaccine 12 weeks apart. Children who are at high risk of catching COVID-19 or live with someone who has a weakened immune system will be offered their second dose after 8 weeks.

Although COVID-19 symptoms are usually mild in children, it can make some children unwell. The vaccine offers additional protection and can help to prevent the virus from spreading around schools, families and communities.

The vaccine has been tested and is considered safe and effective for 5-11 year olds. You can read the Pfizer leaflet on GOV.UK.

How to book an appointment

You can book your child’s first dose on the National Booking System from the day they turn 5.

Second doses can be booked 24 hours after their first dose and you will be offered appointment dates from 12 weeks after their first dose.
