Have NHS Manchester CCG checked the qualifications of all the people providing talking therapy, psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapies by a counsellor, psychotherapist or mental health assistant at your practices and other commercial services you send patients to? If so, how have you done this?
All of the services we commission are IAPT compliant and therefore staff have the appropriate qualifications to deliver these services
Could you provide me with the most up to date documents/guidance you have on how you choose providers for your therapy services?
We currently commission 7 services to deliver IAPT services across the city that is based on their ability to deliver step 2 and step 3 services and that they work with communities of interest that will ensure better uptake of evidence based psychological services for key communities across the city
Have NHS Manchester CCG paid for patients to have therapy/treatment through the NHS with unqualified, unregulated, and unsupervised commercial services? Meaning those providing the therapy at these commercial services have not undertaken the appropriate recognised training, do not hold an honours degree in a relevant subject and are not on one of the voluntary registers accredited by The Professional Standards Authority.
No – although we do commission some services on a non-contractual basis for specialist needs, all staff working within these services are registered with the BACP
